Character Name: Clinton Francis Barton

Personality: Clint is, in a word, intense. He is not a man to be fucked with, and he takes great pains to let you know exactly that. He has been a part of a black ops team that might as well not exist to the rest of the world for the past ten years. Kosovo? Afghanistan? The fall of the Berlin Wall? Clint was there for all of that, arrows docked. Before Nick Fury found him, Clint was on death row for murder. Instead of getting a lethal injection or the hottest seat in the house, he got a leather jumpsuit and a license to kill.

Clint Barton is a professional. He is efficient, clean, practical, and...a family man. During his ten-year stint as a SHIELD hitman, he managed to juggle a longtime girlfriend and three children. He has the rare ability to keep his work and his life cleanly divided---or did, until Natasha took her vendetta against America right into his home and robbed him of what little happiness he had. Now, there is nothing to Clint except the job. He is highly trained, highly lethal, and not what anyone would call overly compassionate. Having his children die literally in his arms hardened him; he is falling apart in slow motion. His pride and stubbornness keep him from putting a bullet between his own eyes, but he is still angling to go out in a blaze of glory---so long as it means going out. He struggles with living without Laura and their babies, but he isn't ready to punch his own ticket quite yet. Unfortunately, he's very good at keeping himself alive.

As a professional hitman, he doesn't understand the lure of being a superhero. Fighting for the greater good, he understands. But he would rather not get accolades or pats on the back for what he does---not when he still firmly believes in acceptable losses and the raw, animal satisfaction of fulfilling a vendetta.

How does your AU differ from canon? Canon AU: Ultimates

Strengths: Nobody can shoot like Clint Barton does. He is a marksman of superhuman capabilities, even though he is a simple human himself. If it can be thrown, he can turn it into a weapon. Case in point? He pulled out his own fingernails and used them to kill ten men. Clint is one of the founding members of SHIELD in the Ultimates universe, and he didn't get as good as he is without breaking a few bad eggs along the way. He was a convicted murderer and former Olympic athlete before the government got their hands on him, so that background has fed into who he has become as Hawkeye. He is athletic, professional, and dogged as hell. He is the only member of the Ultimates team who is fully and unaugmented human, and yet he still keeps pace with the best of them.

Weaknesses: Clint has a hefty dose of PTSD that he is not at all interested in dealing with. He is still furious at a world sick enough to ensure that he came back from every mission alive, but would take his family from him. He's a "shoot first, ask questions later" kind of guy, and he is an exceptionally good shot. The universe that Clint hails from is much harsher than the traditional Marvel U---as such, he is a-okay with killing, hating on mutants, and exterminating anything that gets in the way of him doing his job.

He's not going to be making a lot of friends.
